the ci... ci... ci.. cicadas are here!!!!

i first heard them on Thursday....a roar.... an unearthly sound...... coming from the forrest on billy grahams property. i had no idea what the sound was...then Friday i was near downtown Asheville off merrimon running errands.

i stopped at a stop sign ,glanced out my passenger window. i saw at least 30 casings.

as i pulled over to collect them in a little box for art work-

i looked down to see that my feet on the sidewalk were almost engulfed in the casings and looking to the trees up high...hearing their very loud song...there were hundreds..i suppose thousands-these were the ones David Attenbourouh spoke about in THE PLANET EARTH DVD's-the 17 year cicadas.
